Equipping People to Find Their Purpose in Christ
I'm thrilled to let you know that Sunnyside's generosity has once again displayed itself grandly in our Sunday, October 4th Alabaster Box offering. This missions giving supports the work of churches, outreach, and relief efforts at home and abroad. Sunday's offering was $563.84, with a handful people still bringing their offering in in this week. The Bible says, "Give, and it will be given to you pressed down, shaken together, and running over..." (Luke 6:38). No one gives in order to get...we give to bless others, meet needs, and out of obedience to the Lord. But as the pastor I am encouraged to see how the blessing of God will pour out on the congregation of Sunnyside as He blesses your generosity. Thank you for giving in support of the Alabaster Fund! God bless you!
And thanks to our NMI president Debbie Reynolds for spearheading the Alabaster Box giving Sunday.
What a joy it was to meet with over a dozen leaders and prayer warriors Saturday, September 26 to pray from 8:30 to noon (we did start with breakfast...:-)). The Lord met with us as we interceded for our church, its people and ministries, and prayed for three hours into a vision for the future. We prayed that we would grow in our lives of holiness, and be a people who love and reach out well, who welcome the newcomer and who are committed to both discipling and being discipled. It was a powerful time!
We do this kind of thing quarterly--if you would like an invitation to come join us, please reach out to Pastor Deborah to let her know you are interested. May we become a house of prayer for the nations!(Isaiah 56:7)
And it's October! How did that happen?
Check out two big events in October as well as mark your calendar for two events in November. Sunnyside Nazarene has more going on than you might think. Especially note Visitor's Sunday on November 1st. Invite family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues who may not have a home church. We have a nice gift for every visitor that day!
We had lots of fun gathering on a mostly cloudy day at Happy Valley Park on Saturday, August 15th, Great games, great food, great fun. Thanks for coming, everyone! Let's do it again...and maybe we'll get a little more sun :-)

What a joy to welcome Kevin, Madge, and Angela into membership at Sunnyside Church of the Nazarene Sunday, July 12th. We love welcoming people into community, believing that the formal step of membership strengthens the bonds of fellowship and connectedness.
We are grateful for what these three already bring to the Sunnyside family and look forward to the many ways they will bless the congregation in the future!
If you have questions about membership, please reach out to Pastor Deborah at pastordeborah@sunnysidenazarene.com, Pastor Craig at pastorcraig@sunnysidenazarene.com, or call the church office at 503.771.3603.
Young Adult Worship Event--A Great Time!
What a great night of worship at Sunnyside Nazarene on Saturday, June 27th. It was a privilege to get to share on how much we need the Holy Spirit leading and filling us to do His will on this earth!
We are so glad you are checking us out. We are a vibrant community of loving and caring followers of Jesus who makes room for everyone--every seeker, every person in pain, every doubter, every person who just needs to feel loved. We are an evangelical Christian community that believes God wants us to love Him, each other, and the world and everyone in it, taking the Great Commission seriously to go into the world making disciples.
We are certain that when you come through our doors, you will feel welcomed, safe, and valued. No one here is a stranger--just a friend we haven't yet met. We can't wait to meet you!
We would love to help answer some of your questions!
There is a upper and lower parking lot in front of the church just off of 92nd Avenue, with plenty of parking. Handicapped spaces line the parking lot adjacent to the sidewalk in front of the front entrance.
We have KidzMin for ages 4 through 12. Click on the KidzMin link for more information.
Service begins with an opening song that sets the tone for the morning. People join in the song as they find their seats and begin to engage in worship. There is a welcome greeting with announcements from the pulpit, and then a call to worship done by a congregant, who will read a passage of scripture related to the sermon topic. After that, there will be three to four worship songs, then a short greeting time, then the sermon. After the sermon there will be one more worship song, then a formal closing with prayer and dismissal.
To become a member of Sunnyside Nazarene, there are three hours of membership classes required where topics related to governance, ethics, theological positions, and other denominational distinctives are covered. Once the classes have concluded, attendees can indicate a willingness to take membership in the church. Those who desire to become members are formally welcomed into membership during a church service before the congregation.
For leadership of a ministry, we prefer to appoint or elect people who are members or who are seeking membership. If you are interested in membership, please see Pastor Deborah or Pastor Craig.
To be eligible to serve as a board member (on our Ministry Leadership Team), one must be a member in good standing who has demonstrated a faithful commitment to God and to the local body of Sunnyside Church of the Nazarene. Potential board members are nominated and elected each year in March/April at the annual meeting. Board members must be willing to sign and abide by the Code of Conduct as outlined in the Nazarene Manual. Elected members serve three-year terms, and are eligible to be re-elected for additional terms at the end of their three-year service.
The best way to join a ministry is to simply talk to the person who leads that ministry. Each ministry leader can talk to you about any training that might be required, including whether or not you will need to be background checked. They can work with you to determine where your gifts best fit in the ministry. Click on the ministry link to see the leader’s name and contact information.
Small groups at Sunnyside gather on Sundays after the sermon. They are open to everyone at any time. These “Sunday School” small groups run quarterly with a Sunday “off” between quarters where we hold a potluck/community celebration. Click on the “Sunday School/Small Groups” link to see the schedule and the classes currently being offered.
Serving is as easy as just letting someone know you want to help. Aside from working with children (which requires a background check), there are all sorts of ways to serve. Some areas, like worship and technology, require an onboarding with the ministry leader which means there may be a period of learning before you actively deploy into service. In other areas, a conversation with the ministry leader and/or the pastor suffices to be sure that you are a good fit in that particular area as well as helping us get to know you so that we can make your service a positive and fruitful experience for you.
